Should I buy a 4-track cassette recorder or a digital recorder?

I am bidding on a 4-track recorder on Ebay.
Should I go with the one that’s digital or the one that’s cassette? I am thinking the cassette one is cheaper right? But at the same time the cassette one loses quality I heard. I am not concerned about that as long as it’s cheap because I am just starting out. But I also have no idea on how better a digital one can be. Either way , they are both kind of costly which is why I am buying it on ebay.
